A white Kinetica-1 rocket operated by Chinese launch company CAS Space ascends into a clear blue sky, leaving behind a bright flame and thick plume of brownish exhaust. The rocket has just lifted off from a desert launch pad at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China. In the foreground are low, rectangular buildings with blue roofs, a large white hangar, and tall metal towers used for communications. The barren desert landscape stretches flat into the distance under an open sky.
