U.S. President Barack Obama announced April 28 his intention to nominate CIA Director Leon Panetta to succeed Robert Gates as the U.S. defense secretary this summer. The president intends to fill Panetta’s CIA post with U.S. Army Gen. David Petraeus, the commander of multinational forces in Afghanistan.
